Grasshopper Tennis

This morning we practised some tennis skills in our Grasshopper Tennis session. We were taught how to hit a ball using a forehand shot, part of this is going into the starfish position before you get ready to hit the ball. We also had to try and flip our racket over without dropping the ball. We practised doing small hits with the racket and we had to keep our feet stuck in the mud. We hit the ball to a partner for a small rally so we could practice our forehands.
We will definitely be looking forward to learning more skills next time.

Mathematical Strategy

This term in Maths we are learning and practising strategies for addition and subtraction. Part of knowing a strategy really well is being able to record our thinking. Here are some photos of our work on whiteboards. Maybe you can practise these strategies at home!

ROPS Commonwealth GamesAthon

Our class represented Barbados for the GamesAthon with our buddy class, Room 3. We made Barbados flags to wave as part of the Opening Ceremony. We played different activities like Rob the Nest, skipping, Prisoners and Guards, obstacle courses, Stuck in the Mud and parachute. The weather was not very nice but we still managed to have fun! The real Commonwealth Games are in Delhi, India. We have seen on the news at the moment that India is busy building a stadium to prepare for the games.

Keeping Ourselves Safe (KOS)

This term we have been learning the different ways to keep ourselves safe. Yesterday we discussed how it is important to know and talk about our feelings.

When we feel angry we can:
-take some time out and read a book
-take a deep breath and count to ten
-let off some steam somewhere by yourself
-have a drink of water
-walk away
-DON'T TAKE IT OUT ON OTHER PEOPLE AROUND YOU

Use your WITS if someone is taking out their anger on you
Walk away
Ignore
Tell the teacher
Say 'Stop it, I don't like it'

Cricket

This term for P.E we have been doing cricket with Jonty.
We have learnt these skills: bowling, batting, catching, fielding (spreading out, throw to our team members instead of running with the ball), wicket-keeping, throwing, running to the ball
We felt successful when we did a good hit. It was difficult to get used to swinging the cricket bat correctly. We had to use our arm to aim towards the wickets when we were bowling. When we were bowling we tried to keep our arms close to our ear as our arm comes around.
We had a fun time, especially with Jonty helping us to improve our cricketing skills! Learning about cricket was a good experience.

Our focus during our ICT room slot this term is using Microsoft Publisher to create presentations. So far we have created a cover page for our Published Work Folders, name labels for our Writing Wall, bag hooks and tote trays. At the moment we are working on a poster that shows one way children can be 'better than before' at school. The featured work is by Cola.
